Fully Electrical Cutter Suction Dredger
Damen Dredging Equipment has awarded Gebhard Electro the contract to develop the drive system for Damen’s first fully electric Cutter Suction Dredger 650.
Electric is the future
Fully electric is the future for Cutter Suction Dredgers, because this dredger will work on one project for a longer period of time, power supply via cable is possible. A battery pack on this ship is not an option, the power consumption is much too high. A dredger already has a pipeline that can be used for connecting cable. The HV Cable goes to a transformer that transforms HV to LV (690V), after which it can be distributed among power consumers.
The result
After intensive collaboration between Damen and Gebhard, a custom-built multi-drive system has been developed with a total installed power of 3250kW. The drive system will drive various electric motors and feed the on-board network.
